A Special Appeal

Dear Westar members and donors,

Spring has arrived with budding flowers, beautiful sun, and morning walks; it also includes storms and a Westar fundraising drive.

$10,000 Challenge

Our spring 2025 fundraising campaign has a $10,000.00 goal. The focus is on Westar’s popular resource Bible Search and Rescue (www.biblesr.org). Bible Search and Rescue, or BSR, began as a project originally called Westar Fundamentals. Elli Elliott, our late colleague and friend, played the key role in defining what the fundamentals would consist of, and David was bent on those fundamentals being specifically Bible fundamentals.

In the course of her work, Elli discovered that she needed to move to an even more basic level. It is hard to talk about the fundamentals of biblical criticism before one has addressed the lack of Bible awareness. The most popular questions addressed to Ellie were about who wrote the Bible, when was it written, and what difference does context make. Addressing these questions became like a rescue mission for the Bible, and out of that feeling, “Bible Search and Rescue” was born. BSR has proven effective at addressing distorted views of the Bible.

Bible Search and Rescue has become the most popular public website in the Westar suite of services. BSR is visited thousands of times a month from locations all over the world. It offers study resources and timely conversational themes. It has a podcast featuring diverse guests, like Dominic Crossan and Erin Vearncombe. Every donation to Westar helps support Bible Search and Rescue along with other initiatives and seminars that address the desperate need for religious literacy in culture today.

We Work Because You Care

Please remember that Westar cannot combat religious illiteracy without your help. In an age fraught with propaganda and misinformation, Westar supports rigorous academic research combating abuses of the Bible in culture. Any donation helps Westar advance academic research, public educational services, and critical thought in Bible and Theology.

Last year you contributed over $40,000 to Westar’s Spring campaign, but this year our goal is more modest. Still, we need your help. Please consider supporting Westar and its mission.

We are grateful for your committment and support.
