Dennis Smith

Dennis E. Smith was an outstanding Scholar of the Westar Institute and instrumental in the formation of the Acts Seminar (2001-2011). With Joseph B. Tyson, he edited and published the major work of that seminar, Acts and Christian Beginnings (Polebridge Press, 2013). Dennis was the LaDonna Kramer Meinders Professor of New Testament at Phillips Theological Seminary from 1986 to 2015. He was considered an excellent colleague, administrator, and highly regarded teacher. His scholarship focused on the telling of biblical narratives as story (The Storyteller's Companion to the Bible series, 1991) and particularly on early Christian meal practices (Many Tables: The Eucharist in the New Testament and Liturgy Today, 1990).
