Biography

Chris L. de Wet is Professor of New Testament and Early Christian Studies in the Department of Biblical and Ancient Studies, at the University of South Africa, Pretoria. He is also Honorary Research Fellow at the Australian Lutheran College, University of Divinity, Adelaide. He is the author of numerous publications, including Preaching Bondage: John Chrysostom and the Discourse of Slavery in Early Christianity (2015, University of California Press), The Unbound God: Slavery and the Formation of Early Christian Thought (2018, Routledge), and editor (with Maijastina Kahlos and Ville Vuolanto) of Slavery in the Late Antique World, 150–700 CE (2022, Cambridge University Press). He is also one of the editors of the forthcoming Oxford Handbook of Households in the Biblical World. He is Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Early Christian History.
