Early Christian Apocrypha refers to biblical or related writings not forming part of the accepted canon, or “collection” of texts found in the New Testament. Westar’s Christianity Seminar has recently concluded that the term Gnosticism does not adequately describe this collection of writings and in fact can lead to misunderstandings about the nature of the texts. Polebridge books in this category introduce and critically consider these rediscovered texts on their own terms.
Westar Institute fosters collaborative, cumulative research in religious studies and communicates the results of the scholarship to a broad, non-specialist public.
