Featuring Marcus J. Borg, Robert W. Funk, Roy W. Hoover, Perry V. Kea, Robert J. Miller, Ruth Schweitzer-Mordecai, Bernard Brandon Scott Jesus Seminar Guides, vol. 1 Often referred to by the press and critics alike as a single voice, the Jesus Seminar “is not, in fact, monolithic,” writes Bernard Brandon Scott. “Biblical scholars are notoriously independent and contrary.” The scholars of the Jesus Seminar are no different. In Jesus Reconsidered, readers will hear the diverse voices of pioneering scholars, some of whom put their reputations and careers on the line when, in 1985, they chose to go public with scholarship that had been common knowledge in scholarly circles for more than a hundred years. Witty, timely and full of provocative issues, articles by Robert Funk, Marcus Borg, Roy Hoover and others invite readers to step inside scholarly debates and discussions previously obscured by jargon and obfuscation. Robert W. Funk was a distinguished teacher, writer, translator and publisher in the field of religion. A Guggenheim Fellow and Senior Fulbright Scholar, he served as Annual Professor of the American School of Oriental Research in Jerusalem and as chair of the Graduate Department of Religion at Vanderbilt University. Robert Funk was a recognized pioneer in modern biblical scholarship, having led the Society of Biblical Literature as its Executive Secretary from 1968–1973. His many books include A Beginning-Intermediate Grammar to Hellenistic Greek (3d ed., 2013), The Five Gospels: The Search for the Authentic Words of Jesus (1993, with the Jesus Seminar), and The Acts of Jesus: The Search for the Authentic Deeds (1998, with the Jesus Seminar).
