The What and Why of Rhetorical Criticism with Nina E. Livesey, Ph.D.

This free webinar aims to define and describe rhetorical criticism and to explain why it is appropriate for textual analysis, including biblical texts. We'll discuss the theory behind the art of composition and the criteria by which writings were assessed as well as ancient pedagogical practices developed to help achieve stated compositional goals. Lastly, using sample biblical passages, we will explore how rhetorical criticism can be seen to respond to ancient compositional goals and how it likewise productively informs modern interpretations.
