Join us for a free preview of the Christianity Seminar II Fall Meeting: Borders, Boundaries, Encountering Others
Most conceptions of emergent Christian history have been based on a Western, Roman model. However, the Christian movement transcends the margins of the Roman world and diversifies as it spreads both within the Roman Empire and beyond its borders.
The Fall 2023 CS Phase II Conference, will examine the driving forces of individual and collective movements of people, and the local conditions that produced varied forms of Christian (and Jewish) identity in places where Greco-Roman cultural assumptions did not predominate.
We will likewise explore the various ramifications of these border-crossings for local communities, as alternate forms of Christianity (and Judaism) entered into varying relationships of conflict and accommodation with their local cultures and developed in ways that put them at odds with Christians (and Jews) acculturated to the Roman heartland.
Fall Meeting Presenters:
Dr. Chris Shea, Ball State University
Dr. Paul Dilley, University of Iowa
Dr. Michal Bar-Asher Segal, Ben Gurion University of the Negev
Dr. Jae Han, Brown University
