L. Michael White, author of Scripting Jesus: The Gospels in Rewrite (HarperOne, 2010), received his PhD in Religious Studies from Yale University. He served as the Chair of the Department of Religion at Oberlin College prior to his current position at the University of Texas. His research interests include Greco-Roman religions, formative Judaism, and Christian origins. He has contributed to PBS documentaries on religion including "From Jesus to Christ: The First Christians" (aired April 6 & 7, 1998). He also serves as Director of the Ostia Synagogue Area Excavation (OSMAP), an excavation at the mouth of the Tiber River outside of Rome.
