Westar Institute receives numerous inquiries about churches, congregations and other communities that are receptive to the work of the Jesus Seminar.

The groups listed below have identified themselves as places that are open to the scholarship of the Jesus Seminar. In many cases they have sponsored workshops or other events featuring scholars associated with the Seminar. In some cases they offer ongoing programs for people wishing to read contemporary scholarship and discuss its implications for both communities and individuals.

This directory reflects the considerable religious and philosophical diversity of groups that have drawn upon the work of the Jesus Seminar. Inclusion in this register does not imply that these organizations accept one another's beliefs or practices. Equally, Westar Institute is not endorsing these groups in preference to others.

Those who welcome the work of the Jesus Seminar typically endorse the following statements:

• no religious issues are out of bounds
• scholarly collaboration is a viable alternative to competition for professional status
• the results of critical scholarship on the Bible & religion should be widely reported and readily accessible
• knowledge of the historical Jesus is significant information for people of Christian faith as well as many other individuals and communities
• traditional canonical boundaries do not limit the search for truth
• new metaphors and new myths are needed for religious faith in a future global society
• we do not wish to create new orthodoxies
